During the Mandel Fellowship experience in August of 1999 and again on the return of the class of 1999 to Washington in May of 2000, it became apparent that a correlation of The Holocaust education in the secondary schools of the United States to state standards was needed. The standards of the states are in continuous change. The following pages are an attempt at correlation of the standards to Holocaust education as the various states' social studies standards existed as of February, 2001.
It should be observed that covering the Holocaust will apply to more than a stated standard that is included in a course of study or in a state's social studies curriculum. Secondary study of the Holocaust will cover many portions of a course of study and a broad depth of a curriculum.
